Privacy Policy
This Privacy Policy explains what information Tāst (the "App") collects, how it's used, and the choices you have.
1. Information You Provide
- Account info: email address, password (or Sign in with Apple/Google), username, display name, bio, and profile photo.
- Phone number (optional): stored only as a one-way hash, never in plain text, used solely to help friends who are already on Tāst find you. It's never shown to anyone.
- Contacts (optional): if you choose to find friends from your contacts, phone numbers are hashed on your device before ever leaving it — Tāst never sees or stores raw contact data.
- User content: reviews, ratings, rankings, lists, comments, likes, follows, blocks, reports, and feedback you create.
2. Information Collected Automatically
- Push notification token, if you enable notifications, to deliver them to your device.
- Crash and error reports (via Sentry): technical details like stack traces and device/OS info when something goes wrong, so we can fix it. This does not include your account password or message content.
- Website usage (havetast.com only): when a public page on our website is served or opened, we record which kind of page it was, the public identifier in its address, the domain of the site that referred you, a coarse category of browser or link-preview service, and whether you tapped a link to the App Store or to open the app. This is first-party measurement kept on our own infrastructure — there are no cookies, no advertising or cross-site tracking services, and no IP address, device identifier, or account identity is stored with it. We honour Do Not Track and Global Privacy Control: browsers sending either signal are excluded from the reader count, though our server still records that the page was served.
3. Information From Third Parties
Tāst looks up film, TV, book, music, and podcast metadata (titles, cover art, descriptions) from The Movie Database (TMDB), Open Library, Google Books, MusicBrainz, the Cover Art Archive, Wikimedia Commons, and the Apple Podcasts directory to populate the catalog. No information about you is sent to these services.
4. How Information Is Used
To operate core app features: authentication, showing your profile and content to others per your privacy settings, connecting you with friends, sending notifications you've opted into, moderating reported content, and diagnosing crashes. We do not sell your information, and we do not use third-party advertising or behavioral-tracking services.
5. Sharing
Your public profile and any content you post publicly (per your account's privacy setting) is visible to other users. We don't share your information with third parties except the service providers above and infrastructure providers (Supabase for authentication/database/storage, Sentry for crash reporting, Vercel for web hosting) who process it on our behalf to run the App.
6. Your Choices
- Privacy settings: you can make your account private at any time (Settings).
- Notifications: you can turn any notification type on or off (Settings).
- Block and report: you can block other users and report content or accounts.
- Delete your account: available in Settings at any time. This permanently deletes your profile, content, and associated data.
7. Data Retention
We retain your information for as long as your account is active. Deleting your account removes your data as described above; some information may persist briefly in backups before being purged.
8. Children's Privacy
Tāst is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect information from them.
9. Changes to This Policy
We may update this policy from time to time. Continued use of the App after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
10. Contact
